JPG to WebP Converter

Create WEBP output from supported JPG input, with local validation and an explicit download.

Input

Or drag one local image file here. File contents determine the format.

No image selected.

Choose one image. Files stay in this browser.

One static image. Up to 16 MiB and 12 million pixels, with each side no longer than 16,384 pixels. No files are uploaded. The conversion uses a local worker; Cancel stops that worker.

Output

No converted image yet.

Work through the task

Create genuine WEBP output from a JPEG file after checking its actual contents.

  1. Choose one local JPEG file. A filename or MIME label does not override the detected format.
  2. Review the offered settings, then convert and inspect the result.
  3. Check the displayed dimensions and download explicitly. Cancel stops a pending operation; Reset clears the selected file and result.

Example to check

A 32 × 24 JPEG fixture produces a genuine WEBP image with 32 × 24 pixels.

Limits and output behavior

Input is limited to 16 MiB; output to 64 MiB, with a 256 MiB estimated resource budget and a finite 30-second operation deadline. The applicable pixel ceiling is 12 million pixels; other format, dimension and memory checks can reject a file earlier. HEIC fallback/TIFF and AVIF encoding have specialized limits. BMP can reach its byte ceiling before its pixel ceiling. Supported orientation is applied once. Animation, metadata and color-profile fidelity are not promised. Inspect compatibility in the destination application.

Troubleshooting

If JPG to WebP Converter rejects a file, inspect its detected content and dimensions rather than renaming the suffix. Corrupt/unsupported content, pixel/memory limits and format-specific restrictions can reject an input below 16 MiB. Keep the original and retry with a supported smaller file.

Questions

Does changing a filename to .webp perform this conversion?

No. This route decodes JPG content and creates genuine WEBP output. Inspect the result in the destination application before replacing the original.

Input and privacy

Processing runs in this browser. Inputs are not saved automatically. An explicitly chosen local draft, where offered, is plaintext storage on this device. Downloaded files, clipboard contents and browser extensions have separate retention behavior.
