Work through the task
Work out a share of an amount or compare two amounts with an explicit percentage operation.
- Choose the operation first, because “percent of” and a percentage comparison answer different questions.
- Enter the amount and percentage in their labelled fields; retain the quantities when interpreting the result.
- Review the result before copying or downloading. Editing an input invalidates the previous result; keep an original if the transformation matters.
Example to check
10% of 50 → 5.
Limits and output behavior
Use finite values within the bounds shown by the controls. This calculator uses floating-point arithmetic and rounded display values; an exported decimal is not a promise of exact accounting precision. Percentage comparisons with an invalid zero denominator are rejected.
Troubleshooting
Choose the percentage operation before filling its fields. If a comparison fails, check for a zero denominator and use finite numbers within the displayed ranges.
Questions
Is 10 percent of 50 the same as increasing 50 by 10 percent?
No. A share is 5; an increase would produce 55. Select the operation that matches the question before interpreting its result.
